Sports Information Director Intern
The Francis Marion University Sports Information office is seeking an intern for the Department of Athletics beginning in August of 2013. The 9-month position (August-April) is renewable after a year. Weekend and night work will be required. The position will be based on a specific hour and wage structure.
Strong communication-- written and verbal-- and interpersonal skills are required. A working knowledge of public relations and college sports is also expected. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in a collegiate sports information office and website management (PrestoSports). A working knowledge of various Stat Crew Systems software and familiarity with digital photography, video editing software, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Pagemaker is also desired.
Major responsibilities include: (1) assist the Associate AD for Media Relations and Marketing with the promotion and publicity of all 12 NCAA sports; (2)write and edit press releases and game stories; (3) produce athletic publications such as game programs and (on-line) media guides; (4)assist with updating of the athletics website, fmupatriots.com; (4) manage video content for the website; (5) compile and distribute statistics; (6) maintain Francis Marion athletics social media sites; and (7) operate computer programs, including Adobe InDesign and Pagemaker and Stat Crew System software.
Francis Marion, a state-supported comprehensive university with an enrollment of approximately 4,000 students, sponsors 12 intercollegiate sports, 10 of which compete in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference and two of which compete as NCAA Division I independents. Florence, SC is located in northeastern South Carolina at the intersection of Interstate Highways 95 and 20. It is 60 miles from the state capitol, Columbia, and from Myrtle Beach. Historic Charleston is 100 miles away.
