Desktop Support Technician (13-08)

Desktop Support Technician



Under limited supervision and reporting to the Director of User Services, acts an operational manager of ResNet.  Provides Help Desk and Dispatch services.  Assists other technicians with preventive maintenance, desktop support and the distribution of new disk images to all desktops.  Other duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordination of student workers;
  • Directing drop-in clinics offered to residential students each term;
  • Assisting with preventative maintenance of campus-wide technology devices;
  • Assisting as requested in maintaining client software integrity and documentation currency for all supported platforms; and
  • Providing routine support with disaster recovery and restoration practices.

State Requirements:  A high school diploma and experience in computer programming, computer operations, data control, data coordination or the maintenance and repair of computers.  An associate degree in computer science or electronics technology may be substituted for the required work experience.

FMU Preferred Requirements:  An associate degree or higher in an information technology field with one to two years experience with microcomputers and LAN technologies required.  Experience with Microsoft Windows and TCP/IP configurations is required.  Must be able to diagnose desktop computers and their network problems and formulate resolution; provide training for student assistants; and learn quickly how to service a variety of equipment.  Must be able to accurately and confidently communicate with faculty, staff and students on technical matters in as non-technical a fashion as appropriate to the client.

Salary:  Commensurate with abilities and state salary guidelines 

State Class/Band/Level:  AJ20/5/1

Normal Working Hours:  8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. (Monday - Friday).  Summer hours may vary.
