Associate Director of Human Resources: Employee Services



Desired Starting Date:  As soon as an acceptable candidate is identified.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Plan and coordinate the benefits management program for the University; research and implement benefits rules, regulations, and policies; collect, analyze, and present data regarding benefits programs to the VP for Administration; and recommend  policy changes.

  1. Ensure accuracy of employees’ benefits and coordinate with Payroll to identify and resolve any billing discrepancies.
  2. Serve as the University representative in contact with other state agencies and benefits vendors regarding employee benefits.
  3. Administer the University Workers’ Compensation program for the University.
  4. Enhance quality of life for all employees by
    • Disseminating information and discussing benefits options with employees; aiding beneficiaries in completing necessary processes following an employee’s death
    • Working with SC Prevention Partners personnel to plan and direct on-campus programs for the University and other state agencies which promote better health in employees
    • Directing the University’s FMU Friends program to express the University’s concern and empathy to employees and families as the need arises regarding hospitalization, sympathy, or congratulations
  5. Know the requirements set forth in the various policies which comprise the Safety Program of the University and monitor compliance.
  6. Coordinate and manage the FTE for all classified and unclassified positions.
  7. Initiate the hiring process and complete the intake process of new hires.
  8. Identify and use the most appropriate technology to carry out all duties.
  9. Attend regularly-scheduled meetings of the Senior Staff in the absence of the Vice President for Administration.


State Requirements:    Bachelor’s degree.  Human Resources experience.


FMU Preferred Requirements:

  1. Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources management
  2. Knowledge of Francis Marion Human Resources policies and procedures
  3. Knowledge of federal laws and state regulations affecting  (a) benefits management and (b) workplace safety
  4. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting a variety of policies and procedures
  5. High degree of proficiency in computer technologies. 
  6. Ability to set priorities


State Classification:   Human Resource Manager I/Band 5/Level 1


Salary:     Commensurate with abilities and state salary guidelines


Normal Working Hours:  8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday).  Summer hours may vary.
