For the period 05-15-2015 through 06-16-2015 the following incidents were reported to and/or investigated by Campus Police:
5-31/15 – Driving under the Influence – On routine patrol officers observed a vehicle travelling the wrong way on East Palmetto Street after leaving campus from Harlan G. Hawkins Drive. After a series of standardized filed sobriety tests the non-student driver was determine to be under the influence. The non-student driver was arrested, declined a Datamaster test and was released to the FCSO Detention Center staff.
06/03/15 – Fire Response – False Alarm – Officers responded to a fire alarm from Watson Hall. On arrival the alarm panel indicated the alarm was from the Heat sensor in a first floor trash room. The sensor became wet during cleaning operations causing the alarm. Building Maintenance was notified and responded to change the faulty sensor.
06/04/15 – Damage to State Property – Not Malicious A civilian damaged a light pole while backing a vehicle at the Griffen Athletic Complex. The pole was removed by Building Maintenance pending full repair.
06/05/15 – Failure to Stop for Blue Light – Off Campus – Officers clocked a vehicle travelling 67 mph in a 45 mph zone. The car initially stopped but sped off as officers tried to move it to a safer location. When speeds exceeded 100 mph the chase was terminated and the information radioed to the Highway Patrol.
06/06/15 – Fire Response – False Alarm – Officers responded to a fire alarm from Marion State Hall. On arrival the alarm panel indicated the alarm was from a faulty smoke detector on the 3rd floor. Building Maintenance was notified and responded to change the faulty detector.
06/16/15 – Information Only – Welfare Check – A civilian called to report getting several concerning text messages for a student regarding his well-being in response to texts sent by the civilian. Investigation revealed the student has turned in the phone number the civilian had used to contact him; the messages were not from the student. At officer request the student who had been off campus paying a bill came by Campus Police and was confirmed to be well.
