For the period 2-14-14 through 3-5-14 the following incidents were reported to and/or investigated by Campus Police:
Fire Alarm – Campus Police officers responded to a fire alarm at the McNair Science Building. A staff member accidentally pulled the fire alarm.
Traffic and Drug violations – Campus Police officers stopped a non-student for a traffic violation. The non-student’s license was suspended and he was in possession of marijuana. One non-student arrested.
Drugs – After stopping a non-student for a traffic violation, Campus Police noticed marijuana in the car. One non-student issued a state ticket for marijuana possession and a resident student referred to Student Affairs.
Dispute – Campus Police took a report from a student who felt uncomfortable after a friendship with another student ended poorly. Both students were referred to Student Affairs for follow-up.
Drugs – After detecting the strong odor of marijuana, Campus Police officers were invited into a dorm room where there was marijuana in plain view. Two students arrested for marijuana possession and referred to Student Affairs.
Trespassing and Drugs – While on routine bike patrol, Campus Police noticed several unfamiliar individuals standing near the octagon. While the officer was talking to those individuals, two of them refused to provide their university ID cards; a violation of a university policy. Another individual threw a bag containing marijuana in front of the officer. One non-student was arrested for marijuana possession and trespassing. One student was arrested for marijuana possession. One non-student was issued a trespass notice.
Property Damage – A student reported another student hit his car in Parking Lot “A” and then left the scene without reporting it. A report was completed for insurance purposes and the other student referred to Student Affairs.
Trespassing – While on routine patrol, Campus Police noticed a vehicle they had dealt with before which was affiliated with a non-student who was on the university’s trespass list. Campus Police officers observed the vehicle commit a traffic violation and stopped the car. One non-student issued a state warning for a traffic violation and arrested for trespassing.
State Property Damage – Campus Police assisted the SCHP with a traffic collision on Francis Marion Road. A non-student was talking on her cell phone and ran off the road, striking a power line and several university bushes near Parking Lot “C”. The non-student wasn’t injured but was charged by the SCHP for driving too fast for conditions.
Off-campus Assistance – Campus Police responded to Patriot Place Apartments to assist FCEMS and the FCSO. A former student reported being in an altercation with a current student. This case was handled by the FCSO but was also referred to Student Affairs as it involved a current student.
Trespassing – Campus Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The non-student was on the university’s trespass list for an earlier incident involving drugs. The non-student admitted to knowing he wasn’t supposed to be on campus. The non-student was arrested for trespassing.
Driving under Suspension – Campus Police officers stopped a car which was in an area of campus which is normally closed after hours. A check of the driver’s license revealed him to be driving on a suspended license. The non-student was issued a state summons for DUS.
Drugs – Campus Police stopped a car which was driving without its headlights on several hours after dusk. While talking to the two occupants of the car, Campus Police noticed marijuana in plain view. One non-student arrested for marijuana possession and issued a state warning for driving without headlights on after dark.
Drugs – Shortly after the above case, Campus Police noticed another vehicle driving without its headlights on. After a traffic stop, the driver, who had attempted to eat the marijuana he had in his possession right in front of the officer was arrested for marijuana possession and issued a state warning for driving without headlights after dark. The three non-student passengers were instructed to depart campus.
Drugs – Campus Police officers noticed a vehicle park in the very last row of the south end of Parking Lot “G”. While talking with the occupants of the vehicle, who stated they were here to see a resident student, one of them had forgotten he had a marijuana cigarette behind his ear. There was also a liquor bottle in plain view in the car. One non-student was arrested for marijuana possession and having a liquor bottle with a broken seal in a vehicle and issued a trespass warning. The other non-student was issued a trespass notice for campus.
DUI – Campus Police noticed a vehicle traveling in an area of campus which is not normally used in the early hours of the morning. After stopping the vehicle for a traffic violation Campus Police noticed several open containers of alcohol within reach of the driver. The driver failed the standardized field sobriety tests he was given and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
Harassing Phone Calls – A student reported to Campus Police that an ex-boyfriend continued to call her even after being told repeatedly to stop. The student also reported this to her local off campus police department. This case was referred to investigations and Student Affairs for follow-up.
Fire Alarm – Campus Police responded to the Griffin Athletics Complex for a fire alarm. A concession worker had mistakenly set off the fire alarm.
Driving under Suspension – While on routine patrol in the early hours of the morning, Campus Police officers noticed a vehicle stopped in a parking lot which isn’t generally used after hours. After talking to the driver of the vehicle it was determined that he had a suspended driver’s license. The driver, a non-student, was issued a state ticket for driving with a suspended license.
Property Damage – A student reported to Campus Police a branch fell off a tree, struck the ground and then struck his car which was parked in Parking Lot F. A report was completed for him to file with his insurance company.
University Policy Violation – While conducting monthly fire extinguisher inspections with a Resident Assistant, Campus Police noticed two non-students in a Moultrie Apartment. There were no students present in the apartment. The non-students were instructed to leave campus. The residents of the apartment were referred to Housing and Student Affairs for policy violations.
Theft – A resident student reported to Campus Police that someone took items out of her car. Forwarded to investigations for follow-up.
Excessive Noise – While conducting fire extinguisher inspections in King Hall, Campus Police were notified of a verbal altercation in a nearby room. After investigating, a non-student was informed he couldn’t stay on campus overnight with someone of the opposite sex. A resident student was referred to Housing and Student Affairs for policy violations.
Open Container – After stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation, Campus Police noticed an open container of alcohol in plain view. Two non-students issued state tickets for open container.
Trespassing – While conducting a routine walk-through of Snow Isle Hall, Campus Police noticed two individuals standing in an open doorway to a student’s room. Neither of the two individuals was the student resident of the room. It was after guest visitation hours and one of the individuals was on the university’s trespass list. That non-student was arrested. The other individual was instructed to depart campus. This case was referred to Student Affairs and Housing for follow-up.
Drugs – Campus Police responded to a report of marijuana smoke in an Ervin Apartment. While Campus Police were at the apartment they noticed a bag of marijuana in plain view on top of a book bag. Two students cited for marijuana possession and referred to Student Affairs.
Property Damage – a student reported to Campus Police that his window had been broken out of his car which was parked in Parking Lot “C” overnight. Forwarded to investigations for follow-up.
