The Student Health Center is staffed by a family nurse practitioner and can refer students to other health professionals as necessary. The Student Health Services Family Nurse Practitioner also serves as the FMU Automated External Defibrillator (AED) liaison. AED units are located in several buildings on campus. The campus AED locations and the AED protocol can be found here.

Campus Police officers undergo Emergency Medical First Responder training. After completion of the training program, officers are certified as National Registry Medical First Responders.
Florence County Emergency Medical Services has a unit stationed at Francis Marion University. This is a 24-hour full time Advanced Life Support unit. It responds to calls for medical services from on campus, from the industrialized areas near campus such as Dupont and Hoffman LaRouche Pharmaceuticals, and from the suburban areas here in the eastern portion of Florence County. Windy Hill Fire Department, Florence Rescue Squad, Howe Springs Fire and Rescue, and Francis Marion Campus Police all work with EMS as medical first responder agencies in their respective service areas.
