Assistant Professor of English - Rhetoric & Composition (14-03)


The Department of English, Modern Languages, and Philosophy is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in rhetoric and composition, with experience in business writing instruction and writing program administration.  The department offers undergraduate degree options in literature, professional writing and teacher certification, enrolling over 120 students.

Francis Marion University is a state-supported regional university with a strong emphasis on the liberal arts.  FMU was recognized by The Chronicle of Higher Education as a "great college to work for" in 2013.  With approximately 4,000 undergraduate students, FMU offers small class sizes that encourage strong professional relationships among faculty and students.  FMU is located in Florence, SC, a growing city with a vibrant arts culture.  Florence is within easy driving distance of beach resorts, such as Myrtle Beach, and areas of historical interest, including Charleston and Savannah.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition by August 2014.  Experience with writing program administration and teaching first-year and business writing.

Start Date:  August 2014

Teaching Duties:  4/3 teaching load, including professional writing first-year composition courses.

Professional Development:  Francis Marion provides generous support for professional development, including conference travel.  Summer stipends are available on a competitive basis.
