The Rogers Library at Francis Marion University is seeking a full-time librarian to participate in the delivery of library services to its users. This is a tenure-eligible faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is November 18, 2013.
The successful candidate for this position will work under the general direction of the Dean of the Library and depending upon qualifications, knowledge, skills, and experience, will be assigned to one of two areas: either as a reference librarian to provide reference assistance and instruction to patrons; or as a user access librarian, who will oversee circulation services and related activities. Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with faculty, students, supervisor and other library staff;
Ability to lead and motivate staff and student assistants in provision of effective and appropriate circulation services and collection maintenance activities;
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in order to communicate effectively and confidently with colleagues, faculty, students, and staff;
Thorough grounding in library procedures and policies relevant to the prescribed areas of responsibilities and ability to interpret them for patrons;
Strong customer service skills;
Demonstrated departmental management and staff supervisory skills;
Demonstrated organizational and project management skills; and
Knowledge of activities and current developments in the library profession.
Qualifications: Minimum two years of experience working in an academic library. ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library/Information Science. Interest in and willingness to meet the criteria of, and to participate in the University's peer review processes for advancement in rank.
