Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing (14-23)

 

The Department of Nursing (DON) is accepting applications for one tenure-track faculty position.  The successful candidate will teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs.  This is a full-time, nine-month position.  The successful candidate will report to the Chair of the Nursing Department.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching in undergraduate and graduate maternal-child health courses;
  • Participating in collaborative initiatives and research that involve students, community partners, and faculty;
  • Mentoring and advising students;
  • Preparing course syllabus, examinations and tests, key, grade reports, and class rolls (and providing DON a file copy);
  • Participating in departmental and university meetings with course faculty to review and revise course materials as needed, evaluate students' progress, problem solve other course-related issues, and assure quality outcomes;
  • Communicating with Administrative Associate for needed classroom and laboratory space;
  • Communicating with the Curriculum or Nursing Graduate Committee proposed changes in course titles, descriptions, or objectives;
  • Collaborating with all course faculty to select textbooks and other learning materials and submitting all requests for textbooks to the DON Administrative Associate;
  • Arranging for required readings and other learning materials to be placed on reserve in the library;
  • Confirming existing student clinical placements and identifying new clinical sites if needed;
  • Identifying clinical faculty to teach courses and submit in writing to Department Chair numbers of faculty needed for clinical coverage;
  • Providing the Department Chair with information each semester regarding student/clinical preceptor and clinical site;
  • Confirming with clinical agencies each semester the specific data regarding student placement, course objectives, student evaluation process, and other information pertinent to placement;
  • Assuring completion of necessary student records and reports and forward to DON;
  • Reporting midterm warnings to the Student Services Coordinator for processing.  Keeping Track Director informed of any concerns or problems;
  • Ensuring that evaluation information is collected, analyzed, and reported to the Evaluation and Program Improvement Committee each semester.  Process includes evaluation of clinical faculty, site, preceptors, and course;
  • Role modeling professional behavior and appearance;
  • Retaining student papers, scantron sheets, one copy of all tests and any other paperwork, and projects on which students are evaluated for the length of time as University policy designates; and
  • Participating in student recruitment activities.


Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctorate in Nursing (Ph.D. or DNP) preferred; ABD considered; Master of Science in Nursing required;
  • Certified as a nurse educator (CNE) preferred;
  • Teaching experience preferred;
  • Experience in maternal-child health clinical practice; and
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring.


Start Date: August 2014


Professional Development: Francis Marion provides generous support for conference travel when presenting.  Summer research stipends are available on a competitive basis.
