Under general supervision, performs skilled duties involved in the maintenance, repair, and modification of buildings and equipment. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Installs, repairs, or replaces building components, including locks, door closers, windows, glass, walls, and other sections thereof, vinyl wall covering, masonry, carpet, tile, vinyl tile, railings, roofs, and miscellaneous other elements of buildings and items of equipment;
Surveys job requirements and requests parts, tools, equipment, and/or materials needed;
Assists named craftsman or, to the extent of his own expertise, accomplishes necessary tasks in maintenance and repairs of plumbing, electrical systems, and carpentry related items;
Properly prepares and paints elements of buildings and items of equipment;
Assists with maintenance and control of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems;
Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs locks, door closures, and panic bars;
Responds to facilities problems during other than normal working hours; serves as primary person on call on a rotating basis, and otherwise as backup for that person; and
Serves as a member of the "Confined Space Team" and performs other related duties.
State Requirements: A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
FM Preferences: A high school graduate with 3-5 years work experience directly related to the area of employment. A trade's course would be helpful. Desirable skills include: plumbing, welding, masonry, concrete work, rough carpentry, framing, drywall construction, painting, computer literate, etc. Valid SC Driver's License required. Some work may be required at nights or during weekends or holidays. Must be able to see well enough to read chemical labels accurately in various lighting conditions and to operate equipment safely at normal sound cues from other traffic and from equipment being operated.
State Classification: Trades Specialist IV
Normal Working Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday with a 30-minute lunch break each day. Summer hours may vary.
