Lead Teacher - Three's Classroom (14-49)


Serves as lead teacher for a specified age group (Three's) for the Gail and Terry Richardson Center for the Child at Francis Marion University.  Plans and implements educational programs for the Child Care facility.  Plans both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice, and program philosophy.  Develops programs for young children based on current knowledge of child development and early childhood education.  Ensures all programs and activities fit the training, research, and service needs of the Center for the Child and University community.  Works closely with the various academic departments in developing a training facility for FM students in early childhood education, psychology, nursing, and a site for research and community services.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Plan both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice, and program philosophy;
  2. Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child;
  3. Encourage assistants to contribute to curriculum planning;
  4. Coordinate field trips;
  5. Prepare monthly plan charts;
  6. Complete bi-annual assessment of children's development;
  7. Report progress of children to parents in bi-annual reports and through parent-teacher conferences;
  8. Maintain daily open communication with parents;
  9. Keep accident reports;
  10. Maintain anecdotal records;
  11. Maintain confidentiality;
  12. Report any suspected abuse to supervisor and the Department of Social Services;
  13. Arrange a classroom environment in accordance to program goals and philosophy;
  14. Maintain a safe and healthy environment;
  15. Inspect and replace damaged or lost materials;
  16. Attend in-service and staff meetings;
  17. Supervise assistants, aides, and volunteers in the classroom;
  18. Keep all appropriate records such as records, attendance, and time sheets; and
  19. Meet all applicable licensing regulations.

FM Preferences: A bachelor's degree required.  Experience in education, child care or general administration in working with Three Year Olds preferred.

Start Date: August 4, 2014

Salary: Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Normal Working Hours: 37.5 hours/week  (10.75-month contract.  Renewable year-to-year.  Summer employment may be available.)

Materials Needed: 1) Letter of Interest (Referencing Position Number 14-49); 2) resume; 3) FM Application; 4) three letters of reference with addresses, home telephone numbers, and work telephone numbers; 5) copy of SC Driver's License; 6) copy of High School Diploma or GED; 7) copy of College Diploma; and 8) copy of all college transcripts (official college transcripts will be required of the successful candidate).

In addition, the successful candidate will need to complete and sign: 1) A Consent to Release Information form ($8.00 - approximate cost); 2) Evidence of Non-Conviction and Statement of Compliance; 3) Verification of experience working in a Child Care Facility (A written statement from each child care center stating the center's name, address, telephone number, A/L/R number, and employee's dates of employment is required.); 4) Medical Statement; and 5) A copy of current Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Card, if applicable.

The successful candidate must also complete all DSS required forms, which include the completion of a State and Federal background check and related health assessment/medical statements.  No offer can be made until this process has been completed.
