Mr. William F. Loewenstein III
Assistant Professor of Mass Communication

William F. Loewenstein III joined the Mass Communication Department faculty as an assistant professor in the fall of 2004 after working in higher education for 11 years. He has been the adviser to the student newspaper at Lansing Community College, adjunct instructor of journalism at Michigan State University, part-time instructor of communication at Western Michigan University, adjunct instructor of communication at Davenport University, and adjunct instructor of communication at Baker College, all in Michigan.

Bill has a master of arts in communication from Western Michigan University, a bachelor of arts in journalism from Michigan State University, and an associate of science in photography from Lansing Community College. He has served as editor of a daily newspaper in Hawaii, and editor of two weekly newspapers in American Samoa, one of which he founded. He also has served as a public information executive in state government in Michigan, and was coordinator of marketing and public relations for a Michigan hospital. He has written extensively on issues throughout the South Pacific as a correspondent for the New Zealand Press Association, Pacific Magazine, Islands Business magazine, Glimpses of Micronesia and the South Pacific Magazine, Tusitala magazine, and National Fisherman magazine. He is also the author of a book, “Hunting in Michigan – The Early ‘80s.”

While in Hawaii, he was trained and served as a mediator for both criminal and civil cases. He is presently editor-at-large for Wordsmitten.com, an on-line publication featuring non-fiction and creative writing. Bill likes to swim a mile a day, a habit that he picked up on his high school swim team. He also bikes around his neighborhood of Marion, South Carolina, each evening, and regularly jogs and lifts weights. His other interests are reading, photography, music and movies.
