Mr. James Christian
Instructor, Speech Communication

James Christian is a doctoral student in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of South Carolina. He has finished his coursework and is now working on his dissertation. His research interests include examining newspaper coverage of civil rights era events, mediated communication, and public policy.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the College of Charleston in 1997 and a Master of Public Administration from the joint University of South Carolina - University of Charleston program in 2000. In 2004, he received a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of South Carolina.

Christian's professional experience includes technical writing in the software development industry, Web development, and computer based training development. He served as president of the South Carolina chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. Christian retired as a Senior Technical Writer in 2001.

He teaches Public Speaking, Mass Communication Research, and Media Law courses.
