Dr. Garry Griffith
Garry Griffith joined the faculty in the fall of 2006 as an instructor of speech. In the fall of 2007 he became a full-time assistant professor of speech. He is from Cornelius, North Carolina.
He attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he met his wife, Debbie. Although never ordained, he was pastor at two United Methodist churches while attending graduate school at The University of Southern Mississippi.
He has as been involved in professional sports broadcasting since 1986 at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. He broadcast professional baseball in the South Atlantic League for the Fayetteville Generals from 1989-1992. He was the Director of Broadcasting for the Knoxville Smokies in the Southern League for two seasons, 1993-1994. He held the same title with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in the Carolina League for seven seasons, 1999-2005. Last year he broadcast women's basketball for Coastal Carolina University.
Garry wrote a weekly column during the baseball season for the Myrtle Beach Herald from 2001-2006.
He currently writes for Coastal Carolina Sports and Recreation Magazine.
He has been a runner for over 25 years. He ran the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon in 2003 and is contemplating running in a marathon again.
He has taught at Fayetteville Technical Community College; Carson Newman College; Pearl River Community College; Horry Georgetown Technical College; and Coastal Carolina University.
Garry is married to his wife Debbie, who was born and grew up in Venezuela. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
They have three children: Anna, Becky, and Nathan, who were all born in different states.
