Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Psychology

The Department offers a liberal arts baccalaureate degree in psychology with a major, minor or 

collateral. The curriculum is designed to prepare the student for the tasks needed in the workplace and/or entry into graduate programs.
Majors take courses in introductory psychology as well as courses in career planning, research design and statistics, brain and behavior, social psychology and selected courses from experimental, developmental and individual difference core areas. The major requires 27 hours in basic curriculum, six hours of integrative course work, and six hours of electives for a total of 39 hours. Majors complete a capstone requirement consisting of a community internship, project or research.

Master of Science in Applied Psychology

Clinical/Counseling Option

Clinical/Counseling Psychology is an option in the Master of Science in Applied Psychology program. The option is designed to provide training in clinical/counseling psychology leading to employment in human service agencies, hospitals, or similar settings. Consistent with this purpose, the program involves training in diagnostics, therapy, community intervention and research. Additional uses of the program are: (1) continued education and (2) further preparation for doctoral-level study.

Enrollment in the program is limited. Courses are offered during evening hours to accommodate employed students. Courses offer a blend of classroom activities and experiential training designed to acquaint students with both theory and practical applications of psychological knowledge.

The Clinical/Counseling program is approved by the Council of Applied Master' s Programs in Psychology (CAMPP) and is accredited by the Master's in Psychology Accrediting Council (MPAC).

School Psychology Option

The School Psychology Option is designed to primarily to provide training leading to employment in area school or human service agencies. Consistent with this purpose, the program involves training in assessment, intervention, consultation and research. Additional uses of the program are for continuing education or for preparation of individuals interested in enrollment in doctoral-level programs.

Enrollment in the program is limited. Courses are offered during evening hours to accommodate employed students. Courses offer a blend of classroom activities and experiential training designed to acquaint students with both theory and practical applications of psychological knowledge.

The School Psychology program is accredited by the National Association of School Psychology (NASP). The SC Department of Education only certifies graduates from NASP accredited programs.
