Dr. Michelle L. Veenstra
Ph.D. Michigan State University
Dr. Veenstra joined the FMU faculty in 2011. She teaches introductory literature and hybrid literature/creative writing classes as well as a variety of composition courses for freshmen and sophomores. In June 2010, she completed her dissertation, “Travels With Einstein: The Uneasy Relativity of Modernist Travelogues.” Among the many topics that captivate her as a teacher and scholar are visual culture of the 20th and 21st century, feminism and the construction of gender, and the work of Gertrude Stein, Virginia Woolf, Ford Madox Ford, and other innovative modernist authors. In the classroom, she encourages students to think critically not just about literature and writing but also about contemporary trends that influence how we perceive the world, especially emerging media and new communications technologies.
