Dr. Russell (Rusty) E. Ward, Jr. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Francis Marion University (FMU). He teaches Sociology of Sports for the Gender Studies program at FMU. His gender-related research has appeared in Sociological Spectrum and Sex Roles: A Journal of Social Research. In particular, he has studied female-perpetrated violence, and how social institutions use language in ways that trivialize women and privilege men. Dr. Ward served as a member of the original Gender Studies Steering Committee, and the Gender Studies Advisory Committee.
