A specialist in 19th-century U.S. History, Dr. Campbell is the author of When Sherman Marched North from the Sea: Resistance on the Confederate Home Front (University of North Carolina Press, 2003) and is currently working on a second monograph, entitled, "The Troublesome Spirit of Proud People": War and Peace in Occupied New Orleans. She has written numerous articles, presented papers both in the United States and Europe, and was a consultant for a History Channel documentary on Sherman's march. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, particularly to Scotland, where she was born and raised.
