Dr. Kaufman, a Francis Marion University Board of Trustees Research Scholar, joined the Francis Marion University staff in 2001. He is the author of Confronting Communism: U.S. and British Policies toward China (University of Missouri Press, 2001); The Pig War: The United States, Britain, and the Balance of Power in the Pacific Northwest, 1846-72 (Lexington Books, 2004); Rosalynn Carter: Equal Partner in the White House (University Press of Kansas, 2007); Plans Unraveled: The Foreign Policy of the Carter Administration (Northern Illinois University Press, 2008); a children's book, Francis Marion: Swamp Fox of South Carolina (OTTN Publishing, 2006); and numerous articles in the field of U.S. diplomatic history. Additionally, he co-authored with his father, Burton Kaufman, the revised edition of The Presidency of James Earl Carter Jr. (University Press of Kansas, 2006), and contributed to "The United States and the Beginnings of the Cold War, 1945-52," a chapter in American Foreign Relations since 1600 (ABC-Clio, 2003).  He is currently editing, with Dr. Alissa Warters of the Political Science Department, the proceedings of the 2007 UN symposium held at Francis Marion University, and is working on a manuscript on Project Plowshare.
