 Mr. Venters, a Ph.D. candidate in History at the University of South Carolina, began teaching at Francis Marion in 2007. He is a co-author of "African Americans in Camden, South Carolina," a 2006 public history study that won awards from the City of Camden and the South Carolina African-American Heritage Commission. He has worked with the South Carolina Mayors’ Institute for Community Design on preservation and rehabilitation projects for historic textile mill villages in Pacolet, Newberry, and Glendale. His dissertation in progress is tentatively titled, "The Bahá’í Faith and Interracial Community in South Carolina, 1910-1973." A South Carolina native, he has lived and traveled extensively in Africa, Central America, and Europe.
