Interlibrary loan is a service that is provided for faculty, students, and staff of Francis Marion University.  If you need a book or an article in a periodical that the James A. Rogers Library does not have, we can in most instances borrow the book or obtain photocopies of the article from another library.  Complete all information requested on the forms to avoid delays in obtaining materials.  Allow at least one week for your request to be processed and mailed to the Library.

Conditions for ILL services are determined by regional and national codes as well as by policy established by the lending library.  Thus, the lending library will decide in each instance whether an item will or will not be provided.  Most libraries do not lend the following types of material:

  • Special Collections or Archival material

  • Reference Books

  • Journals/magazines

  • Monographs published within the last two years

  • Video and audio materials

Photocopies from these items can be sent.

ONLINE REFERENCE SERVICE

The James A. Rogers Library offers an online reference service that enables anyone with an e-mail account to ask simple, short-answer questions without leaving their home or office.

Please allow at least 24 hours for a librarian to process your question.

LIBRARY INSTRUCTION

The Reference Staff provides library and internet instruction sessions to classes, groups, and individuals.  These sessions introduce library users to the basic resources, services, and facilities that are available to fulfill their information needs.  A general tour of the Rogers Library is accessible here.  Bibliographic instruction sessions are designed to meet the specific course requirements for FMU faculty and other requestors.  Emphasis is on providing instruction that will enable users to effectively search and use appropriate library resources.

You may request this instruction online or call the Reference Department at 661-1310.
