Ian Gowan
Instructor of Spanish

Ian Gowan received his undergraduate degree in Spanish from Gettysburg College in 2004 where he spent a semester abroad in both Cuernavaca, Mexico and Mendoza, Argentina. In 2008 he received his MA in Hispanic Literature from the University of Kansas, where he is currently finishing his doctoral dissertation on Argentine film and theatre of the Post-crisis (2001-present), which he hopes to defend in May of 2012. During his time at Kansas, Ian taught a variety of language, culture, and literature courses at both the beginner and intermediate level.  He also worked as a teacher and assistant director on study abroad programs in Barcelona, Spain and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Ian’s research interests lie mostly in Argentine film and theatre. While at Kansas he was awarded two different travel grants to investigate his dissertation in Buenos Aires, Argentina. For the last two years he had the privilege of working closely with other theatre enthusiasts as the editorial assistant of the Latin American Theatre Review.

Ian is excited to share his passion for Latin American theatre, film, and culture with his students here at Francis Marion University.
