Future Students:

Second Degree Students

Nursing prerequisites for students already holding a baccalaureate degree in any area:

To be admitted, students may hold a baccalaureate degree in an area other than nursing and 22 hours of designated prerequisite courses,

  • Psychology: Lifespan and Human Growth and Development (3 hours)
  • Statistics (3 hours)
  • Science Elective equivalent to FMU's Biology 105 or Chemistry 101 (4 hours)
  • Human Anatomy (4 hours)
  • Microbiology (4 hours)
  • Human Physiology (4 hours)

Preferred applicants should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The GPA is calculated based on the 22 hours of required prerequisite coursework, not your overall GPA. The student should also demonstrate strong academic performance in the core science prerequisites (human anatomy, physiology, and microbiology) by maintaining an overall GPA of 2.6 on a 4.0 scale for those courses. A minimum grade of C must be earned in all prerequisite courses. If the student is interested in starting the program during the Fall semester, all courses must be complete by the end of the Summer I term.

2nd Degree students will follow the same application process as traditional pre-licensure students. For more information about the application process and deadlines, please click here. We do not have a waiting list and being a 2nd Degree student has no advantage in being selected. 2nd Degree students' GPAs are ranked with our other undergraduate applicants.
