Distinguished Alumni Awards

Each year the Francis Marion University Alumni Association presents three awards: the Outstanding Alumnus Award, the Benjamin Wall Ingram III Young Alumnus Award, and the Alumni Volunteer of the Year Award to deserving graduates.The awards are presented in February in conjunction with the FMU Board of Trustees' meeting.  Nominations must be submitted by October 1 of the previous year.

The Outstanding Alumnus Award recognizes a successful FMU graduate who demonstrates leadership at FMU and beyond and meets the following criteria:

  • Should be a baccalaureate graduate and/or master's degree recipient of Francis Marion College or Francis Marion University.
  • Conveys a strong sense of pride and loyalty for his/her alma mater.
  • Demonstrates success in his/her business or professional field.
  • Serves his/her community through active involvement in civic and/or charitable organizations.
  • The outgoing president of the Alumni Association will not be eligible for the award for a period of three years from the date that his/her term of office ends.

 

The Benjamin Wall Ingram III Young Alumnus Award was established to recognize the career achievements and community service of an alumnus who graduated from Francis Marion within the past ten (10) years. The award is named after the late Benjamin Wall "Chip" Ingram, III, a 1976 graduate who served as Alumni Association president from 1990 to 1992. The award winner must meet the following criteria:

  • Should be a baccalaureate graduate of Francis Marion College or University within the past ten (10) years.
  • Demonstrates success in his/her professional field.
  • Actively participates in public and/or professional service.
  • Conveys loyalty and dedicated service to FMU through leadership in University and/or Alumni Association programs.
  • The outgoing president of the Alumni Association will not be eligible for the award for a period of three years from the date that his/her term of office ends.

 

The Alumni Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to a graduate who actively assists in the continued development of the university and the Alumni Association through volunteer programs or projects.  The Alumni Association's executive officers and Alumni Office staff select the recipient based on his/her support of the Association.
