Budget Overview

Many grant reviewers tell me that they regularly begin with the budget section of the grant proposal. The budget is where everything gets operationalized in real terms. We can talk about how we’re going to bring people together to provide training, but there has to be sufficient funds in the budget to pull it off.

Budgets are not something you want to leave until the end. You don’t want to find yourself having written a $2 million dollar proposal for a $200,000 budget. Keep your costs in mind as you build your activities.

Shara Moore, Director for Financial Planning, in the Office of Business Affairs will review the budget for your grant before the University signs off on it. You can work with Shara and Jane Madden ahead of time to nail down budget issues.
