NEW Student Domain & Patriot LAN
Effective fall 2013 FMU students will access technology services through the new student domain using their own network authentication credentials. Each student will use their Swampfox email user ID (without the “@g.fmarion.edu” extension) to connect to the new campus wireless system called “Patriot LAN” with SSID FMU. The initial password will be the student’s last five numbers of their social security number with “fmu” as a prefix. (For example: fmu12345.) The first time the student logs in, they will be required to set a new password. We also provide a utility for resetting or changing this new password which also will synchronize the password with your Swampfox email account, no longer requiring you to contact the Help Desk for password assistance.
While this new process does not yet synchronize all passwords, it does consolidate the usernames themselves so that you will use the same username to access Patriot LAN wireless network (SSID FMU), Swampfox email account, and your Blackboard account. At the present, you will continue to access your billing and grade records using your Student ID and PIN and the Registrar will continue to reset your PIN at your request. Forgotten Blackboard passwords can be retrieved from the front page of the Blackboard application. Those passwords will be sent to your FMU Swampfox email account. Your Rogers Library credentials are managed and reset by the Library staff.
This new process for gaining access to FMU technology services provides a more secure and personal experience for FMU students. You will no longer use a “shared” set of credentials to access the wireless network and will no longer be required to contact the Campus Technology Help Desk to reset your Swampfox email password. We will continue to work to consolidate all authentication credentials into the new student domain credentials.
Also effective fall 2013, the Villages will have wireless access. Wireless access will be installed in the Villas sometime the end of fall 2013 or early spring 2014.
