Admitted Students

You're Admitted...What Happens Next?

Now that you have received your "official" acceptance letter from us, half of your work is done.  So, what should you do now?  Well, we thought you might ask that question, so we have designed this page to help make your transition to FMU a smooth one.  We hope you find everything you need.

Let us know you are coming
When you decide that you are going to enroll at FMU, please complete the enrollment confirmation card that was included in your acceptance packet.  If you are anxious and would like to let us know your decision even sooner, then you can submit your decision using our on-line confirmation form

Please note Since there is no admissions deposit, completion of our enrollment confirmation form reserves your place in our fall class.  Once we have your reservation, we will begin making plans for your arrival.

Graduates Under Construction- Summer Orientation 2006

All new FMU students are required to attend one of our orientation sessions.  Orientation is designed to familiarize you with life at FMU, thus making the transition to college a smooth one.  During orientation you'll have an opportunity to tour the campus, meet your classmates, be advised on course selection, and resister for classes.

For more detailed information regarding our new student orientation program, please visit the Orientation website or call the Orientation Office at 843-661-1279.

Housing & Residence Life

If you are interested in living on campus... apply early!  You should have received housing application materials in your acceptance packet. While we do not require that our new student live on campus, we strongly recommend it.  We feel that living on campus makes the transition into college life an easier one, and it also provides more opportunities for involvement on campus. If you have questions about Housing & Residence life, please call 843-661-1330 or visit their website to receive assistance.

Financial Assistance

If you would like to apply for financial assistance and are a citizen of the U.S. or permanent resident, then you and your parents should complete the (FAFSA) Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  FAFSA forms are available on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov, FMU's Office of Financial Assistance, high schools, or public libraries. Francis Marion University's federal code for the FAFSA is 009226.

Scholarships for New Students

Francis Marion University's scholarship application deadline for new student scholarships is February 15th.  If you are a new student and would like to apply for an academic scholarship, then we need to have your completed scholarship application before the deadline.  Scholarship application forms are available in the Office of Admissions or on our website

Placement Testing

Because we want you to succeed at FMU, we administer placement tests to all new students who have not passed an introductory college level English course or Advanced Placement exam.  Test scores are used to place you into the most appropriate English course for your skill level.  Placement testing is mandatory, and there is a $5 testing fee.  The Office of Counseling Testing mails information in early spring about scheduling the test as well as information about other testing opportunities. For more information, you may contact the Office of Career Development at 843-661-1676.

Immunization Information
All new FMU students are required to submit an Immunization Form to the Office of Student Health Services prior to registration.  You should have received a form with your acceptance packet.  If you need an additional copy, you may download a PDF copy from our website.

Services for Students with Disabilities

The Office of Counseling and Testing provides accommodations for students with physical or learning disabilities and require assistance in dealing with various aspects of university life.  If you require these services, please contact the Office of Counseling and Testing to discuss your situation.  They can be reached at 843-673-9707.

If you have other questions about what you should do now that you are admitted, please feel free to contact us in the Admissions Office.  We will be happy to answer any questions that you may have.  Remember, we are here for you.
