What to Expect

What to Expect

This year’s Orientation theme is “I Joined the Revolution.” “I Joined the Revolution” is an Orientation program designed specifically for students who have never attended college and students who have never attended FMU and are transferring to our university. We want you to be fully informed about college life here at FMU. With this objective in mind, we have planned a comprehensive program that is filled with information that will unlock the key to being successful here at FMU. Attending Orientation will make the transition to college life easier and a more enjoyable experience. You will find Orientation to be very educational and entertaining as you attend all the events and sessions of the day.

If you are an incoming freshman, we would like to encourage you to attend the two day program. The two day program gives you a more in-depth introduction to FMU. It also provides you the best opportunity to meet future classmates and become an integral part of the university.

We begin our opening session at 10:00 AM immediately after check-in. Check-in takes place from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and we wrap things up that evening around 7:00 PM with dinner starting around 6:00 PM. During the day, we do give you the opportunity to participate in several interactive sessions designed to acquaint you with life at FMU. The second day begins at 7:30 AM with breakfast and ends around noon after you have been advised and registered. If you truly want to experience what it will be like to live on campus this fall, we recommend that you stay overnight in the residence halls. Current students serving as Orientation Leaders will be staying overnight in the dorms to assist you.

If your schedule is full this summer, you do have the option to attend our one day program on Thursday, August 7th. It is very much like our two day program, but it is a bit more condensed. You will certainly be presented the same information, attend the same sessions as are held in a two day program, and be able to participate in interactive sessions. Unfortunately, we cannot offer those who attend the one day program the option to stay overnight.

If you are a transfer student, you are only required to attend the first day of our two day program. Also, we understand that your needs as a transfer student are quite different from the needs of an incoming freshman. We have tailored a special schedule for our incoming transfer students that you will find to be informative and helpful as you make the transition to college life at FMU.

Here is an even more detailed list of what you can expect to do at Orientation:

Please Note: Your guests will have a program designed especially for them. Students and their guests will remain together for the first portion of the day and will go to separate sessions for the second portion of the day. Students and their guests will then meet back up at dinner.
