Out-of-State Student Profile |
At Francis Marion University, we have students from across the globe studying for their Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. In fact, over 30 countries and 25 states are represented in our student body for the 2006-200 academic year. Many of our students hail from Virginia, Ohio, New York, Maryland, and North Carolina, although FMU is a popular destination for students from California, Illinois, and Missouri as well. With a combination of great academics, warm weather, and a beautiful campus, it is easy to see why students across the nation are choosing Francis Marion University as their college destination.

I knew I wanted to attend college out-of-state, but I wasn't sure where until I toured FMU. The campus is beautiful, the people are extremely friendly, and the university is the perfect size. I have certainly found my home away from home!

Location, Location, Location!
| Our 400-acre campus is located in historic Florence, South Carolina. With a population of about 35,000, Florence offers many of the activities of a larger city while maintaining the character and charm of a "small-town." An abundance of opportunities are available for shopping, nightlife, and leisure in Florence and the surrounding area. And since we are less than two hours from Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and Columbia, day trips to the larger areas are a cinch! |

Getting to Francis Marion is easy no matter where you live. With two Major Interstates (I-95 and I-20), an Amtrak Station, an airport, and other major roads too numerous to list, we are only a short trip from anywhere in the United States. DRIVING DIRECTIONS |

Costs
| Undergraduate tuition for non-South Carolina residents is $6,419.50 per semester for this academic year (2006-2007), while in-state tuition is $3,256 per semester. When Room and Board and books are combined with the tuition, estimated total fees for out-of-state students comes to less than $19,000. That makes FMU a bargain even when compared to in-state tuition at many other colleges! |

Scholarships for Out-of-State Students
| We offer a wide variety of freshman scholarships at Francis Marion each Fall, ranging from $500 to "full-ride." If a freshman from outside of South Carolina qualifies for any FMU scholarship, the minimum scholarship they will receive will cover the out-of-state portion of their tuition. That correlates into a savings of at least $5,800 per year! In order to qualify for a scholarship, students must be admitted by February 1. In order to be competitive for scholarships, students would need approximately a 3.5 GPA and 1100 SAT (24 ACT). |
