FMU announces tenure and promotion of faculty

August 23, 2017 – Francis Marion University announced the tenure and promotion of faculty members for the 2017-2018 academic year at the school’s annual faculty breakfast earlier this week.

Six members of the FMU faculty have been awarded tenure. They were, Dr. Erik Lowry, associate dean of the School of Education; Dr. William Bolt, associate professor of History; Dr. Julian Buck, associate professor of Mathematics; Dr. Jeanne Gunther, associate professor of Education; Ms. Julia Mixon, associate professor of Art; and Dr. Regina Yanson, associate professor of Management.

Tenure confers upon faculty certain privileges and status, and is the result of a rigorous, multi-step review process by the faculty member’s peers, departmental leaders and the president and provost of the university. Receiving tenure is a seminal event in the life of college professors.

At the breakfast, university officials also recognized 11 faculty members who are being promoted for the 2017-18 school year and faculty service.

Receiving promotions were Dr. M. Annie Muller, assistant professor of Nursing; Dr. William Bolt, associate professor of History; Dr. Julian Buck, associate professor of Mathematics; Dr. Jeanne Gunther, associate professor of Education; Dr. Teresa Herzog, professor of Psychology; Dr. Jennifer Kelley, Professor of Chemistry; Ms. Julia Mixon, associate professor of Art; Dr. Ronald Murphy, professor of Psychology; Dr. Matthew Nelson, professor of English; Dr. Hari Rajagopalan, dean of the School of Business and professor of Business; and Dr. Regina Yanson, associate professor of Management.

Fourteen faculty members were recognized for their service to the University. Dr. Ed Eleazer, professor of English, and Dr. George Harding III, professor of German were acknowledged for their 30 years of service to the University. Mr. Douglas Gray, professor of Art was recognized for 20 years of service. Eleven professors were honored for ten years of service. They were: Dr. Richard Almeida, associate professor of Political Science; Dr. EunJung Chang, associate professor of Art Education; Dr. Paul DeMarco, university physician; Dr. Karen Gittings, associate dean of Health Science; Dr. Jack Griffith, Jr., associate professor of Speech Communication; Dr. Kathryn Haselden, associate professor of Education; Dr. Crystal Renee Hill-Chapman, associate chair of Psychology and associate professor of Psychology; Dr. Kristin Kiely, associate professor of Spanish; Dr. L. Dawn Larsen, associate professor of Theatre History; Dr. Norma J. Salcedo, associate professor of Biology; and Dr. Hubert H. Setzler III, Sparrow Professor of Business, associate professor of Management.
