Orientation Leaders

Orientation LeadersOrientation Leaders are professional, conscientious FMU undergraduate students who are hired by the Office of Orientation to help with spring and summer orientations.  They serve as a resource for new freshmen, transfer students, and parents. OLs serve in a variety of functions in preparation and throughout Orientation. The position allows for both personal and professional growth, and it is a unique honor to those who are able to serve the university in this capacity.

Application Process
  • Apply by filling out the application which can be picked up in Stokes Administration Building, Room 116 (across the hall from Financial Assistance) or printed online. Deadline to apply is February 19.
  • Turn in two recommendation forms, one of which must be completed by a faculty or staff member.
  • Participate in a group interview (pending invitation) to assess each applicant’s communication skills, professionalism, and interpersonal skills.
  • Those selected will be called.  All others will receive an email to their FMU email account.
Qualifications Needed
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Completed at least one semester at FMU
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Good disciplinary standing
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Characteristics we are looking for include professionalism, interpersonal skills, and conscientiousness
Compensation & Benefits
  • $150 per two-day Orientation (Sunday and Monday); $75 per 1-day Orientation
  • Housing in residence halls during two day orientations
  • Meals served during the orientations (varies by orientation)
  • Orientation Leader shirts, bag and water bottle
  • Leadership training
Orientation Leader Responsibilities
  • Attend Orientation Leader training days in April
  • Participate in May Scholarship Reception
  • Participate in all spring and summer Orientation sessions
  • Answer questions about the university in a professional manner
  • Promote interaction among new students attending Orientations by overseeing games and events
  • Help with pre-orientation tasks including preparation of Orientation materials
  • Promote small group interactions and group discussions during Orientation
