The MSN application process is mostly done online. All applicants must submit the following materials:

  • Application fee ($41)
  • Graduate nursing application
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Three letters of recommendation, including one from a current or former supervisor
  • Personal statement
  • Resume or CV

The instructions below will walk you through the steps of the application process.

1. Pay the graduate application fee ($41).

Payments can be made over the phone by calling the Cashier’s Office at 843-661-1120. Alternately, you can send a check (payable to Francis Marion University) to the address below:

FMU Graduate Nursing Program
LNB Office 144A
PO Box 100547
Florence, SC 29502-0547

If you pay by phone, please save your receipt number so you can enter it on your application form.

2. Complete the Nursing Graduate Student Application.

Your Graduate Nursing application is also your FMU application. Click the button on the right to open the online application form.

Be sure to provide a current email address when filling out your application. We will use that email address to communicate with you through the rest of the application process.

3. Send your letter of recommendation requests.

We require three academic or professional references. One reference must be from a current or former supervisor. Click the button on the right to open the Letter of Recommendation Request form.

You will receive an email notification when each of your references responds. Please ask your references to check their junk email folder, since the request emails are occasionally misidentified as spam.

Alternately, you may download the paper letter of recommendation form.

4. Submit your personal statement.

Your personal statement should be 300 to 500 words indicating your career goals and reasons for seeking admission to the MSN program. Click the button on the right to upload your personal statement.

5. Submit your resume or CV.

You must submit a current resume or curriculum vita (CV). Click the button on the right to upload your document.

6. Request official transcripts.

Please have official electronic transcripts sent to NursingGraduate@fmarion.edu.

If your school does not provide electronic transcripts, please have hard copies sent to:

FMU Graduate Nursing Program
LNB Office 144A
PO Box 100547
Florence, SC 29502-0547

We require official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended, including transfer credits. We do not require high school transcripts for graduate applicants. Transcripts from institutions outside of the U.S. must be certified by World Education Services (WES).

Important: Transcripts sent to FMU without specifying a department will go to the undergraduate admissions office. To avoid delays in processing your application, you must specifically request your transcripts be sent to the graduate nursing program.

7. Call to provide additional information.

Please call us at 843-661-1689 to provide your Social Security number, which FMU uses for federal identification and official transcripts. For security reasons, we cannot ask for this information through email or on the online application form. (When you call, you will be speaking to Mr. Benjamin Johnson, the clinical coordinator, who processes our graduate applications.)

Your application is complete. Here's what comes next.

We will notify you by email once all your application materials have been received. We review applications on a rolling basis as they are completed. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive formal notification of your admission status by paper mail.

International Students

All international students must also submit a financial statement and TOEFL scores. If you are an international student, please email NursingGraduate@fmarion.edu for further information.

Application Deadlines

Applications to the Graduate School in Nursing are processed on a rolling basis. The application deadline is one week before classes start. However, you need to make sure your application is in with enough time for the school to receive your transcripts and for financial aid to be processed.
