Patriots entertain Pirate Cagers on Saturday night

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams return home to play host to Armstrong Atlantic State University, Saturday evening (Jan. 13) in the Smith University Center.

The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m.

The Patriot women (3-11, 0-3) will be attempting to snap an eight-game losing skid. Three of the losses were to nationally ranked opponents. Junior guard Brittany Young leads the Patriots in scoring (12.9 points per game) and assists (5.2 assists per game).

The AASU women are 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the PBC.

Francis Marion leads the all-time women’s series 15-12, including a 10 straight wins in Florence, where the Patriots are 12-1 all-time against the Pirates.

Senior forward and Florence native (Wilson High School product) Raymond Dorsey paces the FMU men’s team with 11.8 ppg and 7.9 rpg averages. The Patriot men (3-9, 0-3) are also looking for their first PBC win and to snap an eight-game losing streak.

Timmonsville native Bryan Taylor leads the 20th-ranked AASU men (11-3, 2-1) as he is averaging 14.1 ppg and 6.8 rpg. The Pirates lead the all-time men’s series 17-12 and have captured each of the past four meetings.

The Patriot men step out of conference play to travel to Chowan College on Monday night. Both FMU teams will entertain USC Aiken on Wednesday night at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
