Patriot cagers entertain Jaguars on Saturday afternoon

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will play host to Augusta State University, Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27). The women’s game will tip-off at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 4 p.m.

The Girl Scout Council of Eastern South Carolina will be guests of the university at the twinbill.

The Patriot women (5-13, 2-5) are led by junior guard Brittany Young, who is averaging 12.7 points and 5.9 assists per game. The Moncks Corner native is continuing her climb up the Patriot career assists list and with 388 is now only 26 shy of fifth place.

The ASU women (11-6, 3-4) have won their last two games and feature a balanced scoring attack with six players averaging between 7.5 and 9.9 ppg. FMU leads the all-time series 17-14.

The 15-3 Augusta State men’s team is the lone unbeaten team in PBC play (7-0). The Jaguars sit atop the South Division standings and are led by 6-5 junior forward Tyrekus Bowman, who is averaging 20.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. ASU leads the all-time men’s series 25-9.

The Francis Marion men, coming off Wednesday’s upset of North Division-leading USC Upstate, are 5-12 overall and now tied for fourth place in the North Division with a 2-5 conference mark. Florence native Raymond Dorsey continues to lead the Patriots in scoring (12.5 ppg), rebounding (7.3 rpg), and field goal accuracy (56.1 percent).
