FLORENCE---James L. Schlimmer of Louisburg, N.C., has been named director of admissions at Francis Marion University.
Schlimmer will be responsible for providing leadership in recruiting and admitting new undergraduate students to the university. His areas of special responsibility will include oversight of admissions counselors, support staff operations and recruitment publications efforts.
“We are pleased to have someone with Mr. Schlimmer’s extensive background and experience take over the management of our admissions process,” said FMU Associate Provost Ken Kitts.
“This is such a critical position in making high school and transfer students aware of educational programs available at Francis Marion,” he said. “He will do an outstanding job in working with students and their parents in the admissions process.”
Schlimmer will assume his position as director of admissions on Jan. 15.
A native of Davenport, Iowa, Schlimmer earned a bachelor’s degree at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in 1977 and a master’s from the University of North Carolina (Greensboro) in 1997.
Schlimmer is leaving his post as vice president for enrollment management at Louisburg College to come to FMU. Prior to that, he served as vice president for enrollment at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. At High Point University, he served as director of admissions, dean of admissions, primary designated school official, dean of enrollment management and director of international students over a nearly 25 year period.
