FMU to celebrate Homecoming 2007, Feb. 15-17
FLORENCE, S.C. - Francis Marion University will celebrate Homecoming 2007, Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 15-17. This year’s Homecoming theme is “Let’s Go Back.”
The events will kick off Thursday with a wine and cheese reception for School of Education graduates. The reception will be held at the Cottage on the FMU campus at 4:30 p.m.
On Friday, Feb.16, the School of Business will hold an alumni leadership breakfast at 9 a.m. in the Ervin Dining Hall.
Friday evening’s festivities include FMU Alumni Night at Redbone Alley in Florence at 6 p.m. The event will include an alumni hospitality area and drink and meal specials. Reservations for dinner parties of eight or more can be made by calling 843-673-0035.
Also on Friday, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the National Pan-Hellenic Council will sponsor a Homecoming Step Show for FMU alumni in the McNair Science Building Auditorium. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets for the Step Show are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Saturday’s events will kick off at 11 a.m. with the women’s basketball alumni game, followed by the men’s basketball alumni game at 11:30 a.m. Both games will be held in the Smith University Center gymnasium.
At 12:30 p.m., PatriotFest will be held in the Smith University Center commons. Alumni can enjoy live music and a meal of traditional Southern chicken bog while reminiscing with fellow graduates, former professors and friends. Alumni can also register to win great prizes and pick up free alumni goodie bags.
Also on Saturday, the Patriot Bookstore in the Smith University Center will offer special Homecoming sales and discounts from noon to 5 p.m. A silent auction of sports memorabilia and other items will be held in the north end of the Smith University Center gymnasium beginning at 1:30 p.m. The auction’s proceeds will support Patriot athletics.
A basketball doubleheader with Georgia College and State University will begin with the women’s game at 2 p.m. and the men’s game at 4 p.m. Between the two games, Patriot fans and the FMU Athletic Department will recognize the 1976 inaugural men’s cross country team, the 1987 men’s track and field team and the 1987 women’s softball team. Admission to the games is free.
