FMU announces new faculty members

FLORENCE – Officials at Francis Marion University have announced the addition of new faculty members for the 2008-2009 school year.

Kenneth M. Araujo of Darlington has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of computer science. He earned the B.S. degree in mathematics from Francis Marion University, the B.S. degree in electrical engineering, the M.S. degree in mathematics and the Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from the University of South Carolina.

Hrishikesh J. Goradia of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of computer science. He earned the B.S. degree in computer engineering from the University of Mumbai in India, the M.S. degree in computer science and the Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from the University of South Carolina.  

Jason C. Jones of Sumter has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of chemistry. He earned the B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK, and the Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Middlesex University in London. 

Carol M. McClain of Florence has joined the faculty as an associate professor of education and coordinator of elementary education program. She earned the B.S. degree in elementary education and the M.Ed. degree in elementary education from Francis Marion University and the Ph.D. in education and human development from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. 

Janet T. McMahon of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of nursing. She earned the B.S. degree in health arts from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill., the M.S. degree in nursing with an emphasis in adult health from Pennsylvania State University. She is pursuing the Ph.D. in adult education from Pennsylvania State University.  

Ronald E. Miller Jr. of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of English. He earned the B.A. degree in English and religion from Presbyterian College, the M.A. degree in English and the Ph.D. in English from the University of South Carolina.  

Shawn E. Miller of Dillon has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of English. He earned the B.A. degree in English from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., and the M.A. degree in English from the University of Virginia.

Jonathan G. Munn of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of economics. He earned the B.S. degree in economics from Clemson University, and the Ph.D. in economics from the University of South Carolina.  

Meredith L. Reynolds of Waco, Texas, has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of English. She earned the B.A. degree in English literature from Converse College in Spartanburg, the M.A. degree in English literature from Winthrop University and the Ph.D. in English from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

Terry A. Roberts of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of music. He earned the B.A. degree in music from Florida State University, the M.A. degree in music from Eastern Kentucky University and the Ph.D. in music from Florida State University.  

Christine Sixta Rinehart from Newberry has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of political science. She earned the B.A. degree in international studies, the M.A. degree in international studies and the Ph.D. in political science from the University of South Carolina.

Lisa A. Stuchell of Huntington, W. Va., has joined the faculty as an instructor of English. She earned the B.A. degree in English from the University of South Carolina and her M.A. degree in English from the Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va.  

Louis E. Venters of Hemingway has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of history and a Francis Marion Trail Commission lecturer. He earned the B.A. in history and modern languages from Winthrop University and the M.A. in history from the University of South Carolina. He is pursuing the Ph.D. in history from the University of South Carolina. 

Frances E.S. Vergara of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of management. She earned the B.A. degree in visual arts, the B.S. degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, N.C. She is pursuing the Ph.D. in information technology from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, N.C.

Lance E. Weldy of Florence has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of English. He earned the B.A. degree in creative writing from Bob Jones University, the M.A. degree in English from the University of Illinois and the Ph.D. in English from Texas A&M University.

Alan C. O’Connor of Florence has joined the faculty as a teaching assistant in chemistry.

Carol T. Schnepp has been named assistant women’s basketball coach.
