Three Patriot soccer players named to Scholar All-Region Team

FLORENCE, S.C. – Three Francis Marion University women’s soccer players – junior back Brandi Bonifay, junior midfielder Kiersten Nedervelt, and senior back Jody Rhoderick – have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Scholar All-South Region Team. All three earned honorable-mention recognition.

Bonifay, a native of Stuart, Fla., owns a 3.63 grade point average while majoring in accounting. Nedervelt, a native of Montpelier, Va., is a mass communications major with a 3.55 GPA. Rhoderick hails from Middletown, Md., is a biology major, and has a 3.80 GPA.

All three are multi-year starters and have previously been selected to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll. Rhoderick is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society and Phi Kappa Phi and Tri-Beta honor societies. Bonifay participates in the FMU Campus Outreach and is a member of the school’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). 

Altogether 106 players from all four-year institutions playing women’s soccer in the South Region (from Texas to the Atlantic Coast) were honored for their work in the classroom and on the field.

This past fall, the Patriots completed their first season as a full-fledged NCAA Division I member with a 10-7-1 record, the team’s second straight season with double-digit wins, and 12th in 13 years of existence.
