Barkdoll selected to Preseason All-PBC baseball squad

AUGUSTA, GA. – Junior catcher Jared Barkdoll was recently selected to the 2008 preseason All-Peach Belt Conference baseball team. The team was chosen by the league’s Sports Information Directors and features players from seven of the 10 baseball-playing schools in the PBC.

Barkdoll, a native of Greencastle, Pa., hit a team-high .356 last year with 34 runs scored, 15 doubles, five home runs, and 41 runs batted in. He compiled a .512 slugging percentage, a .395 on-base percentage, and a .992 fielding percentage. He threw out five of 23 runners attempting to steal. He put together an 18-game hitting streak late in the 2007 campaign and hit safely in 22 of the last 24 contests. He led FMU with 22 multiple-hit games, including six three-hit games, and recorded 11 multiple-RBI games.

From his spot behind the plate, he also helped the FMU pitching staff register the nation’s ninth-best earned run average (3.08).

Barkdoll is a former standout at Greencastle-Antrim High School. He is a second-generation Patriot as his dad Tod played one season for Francis Marion (1980).

FMU opens its season on Saturday (Feb. 2) with a doubleheader at Valdosta State University.
