The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will play host to local Peach Belt Conference rival UNC Pembroke on Wednesday evening (Feb. 13). The women’s game, entitled “Think Pink,” will be played in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Week that is sponsored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Everyone attending the game is encouraged to wear pink, as the FMU coaching staff will wear pink ribbons in recognition of all those battling or affected by breast cancer.
The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in the Smith University Center, followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.
The video/audio broadcast of the doubleheader will be available on the internet. The feed, produced through Penn Atlantic Inc., can be purchased at http://www.peachbeltsports.tv/. Viewers must set up an account prior to viewing, and each game is purchased separately.
The 25th-ranked Patriot women (17-4, 10-4) lost two road games last week to drop back into a tie with Columbus State University for first place in the Peach Belt standings. FMU has six regular-season games remaining, with four of the contests at home. UNCP is 7-14 overall and 2-12 in the conference. Francis Marion leads the all-time series 33-17, including a 101-82 win last month in Pembroke.
The Francis Marion men (8-13, 2-12) are looking to snap a nine-game skid by playing the team against which they last won. FMU downed the Braves 77-67 on Jan. 16 in Pembroke. UNCP is also 2-12 in the PBC and 7-14 overall.
The South Carolina State Credit Union, located at 1504 North Cashua Drive in Florence, is the sponsor for Wednesday’s twinbill.
