The Francis Marion University softball and baseball teams will be at home this weekend playing a combined total of seven contests.
The 3-1 Patriot softball team will play host to Carson-Newman College for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
On Sunday, FMU will hold Lil’ Patriots Day with Queens University of Charlotte visiting the FMU Softball Field for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Admission to both softball twinbills is free.
The first 18 girls to sign up at the field prior to the first softball game on Sunday will get to accompany the Patriot starters onto the field during introductions and then stay through the playing of the national anthem. The first 40 kids attending will receive pom-poms to wave and cheer on the Patriots. Members of the Patriot squad will also be available for autographs at the conclusion of game two.
The 20th-ranked Patriot baseball team, which has equaled the best start in team history at 8-1, will entertain Davis & Elkins College for a three-game series this weekend. The two squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, also at 1 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.
Sophomore righty Erik Sommerville (1-0) will be FMU’s probable starter for Saturday’s first game, while sophomore southpaw Cory Deering (2-0) will likely start game two. Junior right-hander David Walters (3-0) will be the probable Patriot starter on Sunday.
The FMU basketball teams have a rare weekend off, but will return to action on Monday when they host Lander University with the women’s game at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m.
