FMU Hoop Teams entertain Lander on Monday

The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will play host to Lander University for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on YMCA Night, Monday evening (Feb. 18).

The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in the Smith University Center, followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

The men’s game can be heard on the radio at 100.1 FM The FAN with Allen Smothers handling the play-by-play. The women’s contest will be joined in progress at 7 p.m.

The video/audio broadcast of the doubleheader will also be available on the internet. The feed, produced through Penn Atlantic Inc., can be purchased at http://www.peachbeltsports.tv/. Viewers must set up an account prior to viewing, and each game is purchased separately.

The 25th-ranked Patriot women (18-4, 11-4) continue to occupy first place in the PBC standings, holding a half-game lead over second-place Augusta State University. Lander (15-10, 9-6) is tied for fifth place. The Lady Bearcats’ visit to Florence will mark the return of three local players: Shannon McKever from South Florence High School, Candi McCall from West Florence High School, and TaSheba Butler from Wilson High School.

The FMU women beat Lander 113-103 earlier in the season knocking the Lady Bearcats out of first place. Francis Marion leads the all-time series 48-18, the most wins against any one opponent in the team’s 35-year history.

The Francis Marion men (9-13, 3-12) will be looking for a second straight win when they play the Bearcat men (9-13, 6-9). Lander, which leads the all-time series 43-34, won the earlier meeting in Greenwood 76-57.
