FMU Baseball up to 7th in NCAA II Poll

By virtue of winning three of four games last week, Francis Marion University moved up two positions to seventh in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll released late Monday (Feb. 25).

The 14-2 Patriots play host to Wingate University (7-11) on Wednesday (Feb. 27) at 3 p.m., before entertaining eighth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.

Francis Marion opened its Peach Belt Conference slate this past weekend with a three-game sweep of UNC Pembroke.

The Top 10 listing is the highest for the Patriots since they were ranked seventh in the initial poll of the 2007 regular season.

Dating back to the 2005 season, the Patriots have now appeared in 54 consecutive national polls. This season, FMU has been ranked 25th, 24th, 20th, ninth, and seventh.

Future FMU opponent Mount Olive College (16-1) took over the No. 1 spot in this week’s poll after previously unbeaten University of Tampa lost twice last week. The Trojans visit Francis Marion for single games on March 4 and 5.
