FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will travel to Savannah to play Armstrong Atlantic State University in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Wednesday (Feb. 27) evening.
The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in AASU’s 4,000-seat Alumni Arena, followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m.
The video/audio broadcast of the doubleheader will also be available on the internet. The feed, produced through Penn Atlantic Inc., can be purchased at http://www.peachbeltsports.tv/. Viewers must set up an account prior to viewing, and each game is purchased separately.
The Patriot women (20-5, 13-5) remained 23rd in this week’s USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II Top 25 poll. Francis Marion still leads the PBC standings, and holds a full-game lead over second-place Augusta State University and Clayton State University. A win on Wednesday would assure FMU of at least a share of the PBC regular-season title, its first since 1999. AASU is 16-9 overall and 10-8 in conference play and gave the Patriots a tough battle before falling 73-69 last month in Florence. Francis Marion leads the all-time series 16-13.
The Francis Marion men are 10-15 overall and 4-14 in the PBC, while the Pirates (16-9, 10-8) are in fifth place in the standings. AASU edged Francis Marion 60-58 in the earlier meeting, the Pirates’ 20th win in 32 all-time meetings.
Both Francis Marion squads will close out their regular-season schedules on Saturday afternoon with a 2008 Homecoming doubleheader against Clayton State.
