FMU’s Wofford Named PBC Softball Player of the Week

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior first baseman Monica Wofford has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference women’s softball “Player of the Week” for the week of Feb. 11-17.

Wofford, a native of Myrtle Beach, batted .550 last week in six games. She scored seven runs and tallied five doubles, a home run, and drove in 10 runs. She posted a .950 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage, while not making an error in 38 fielding chances.

She helped lead FMU to a 6-0 week as the Patriots are off to a 9-1 start.

For the season, she is batting .429 with 11 runs scored, seven extra base hits, and a team-leading 11 RBIs. She was named to the 2008 preseason All-Peach Belt Conference softball team.

She owns the FMU career mark for hit-by-pitches at 43, which is third highest in Division II history and only seven shy of the national record. She has been named an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete each of the past two seasons.

Wofford is a former All-State performer at Myrtle Beach High School.
