FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior point guard Kevina Ransom has been named the Peach Belt Conference women’s basketball “Player of the Week” for the week of Feb. 2-8.
Ransom, a 5-5 native of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., averaged 13.7 points, 6.5 assists, 5.0 steals and 3.3 rebounds per game in three contests. She tallied 20 points, five rebounds, and five steals in a road win at Armstrong Atlantic State University; eight points, six assists, and five rebounds in a 22-point win over 23rd-ranked USC Aiken; and 13 points, 11 assists, and eight steals in a home victory over Georgia Southwestern State University.
In the three contests, she committed only four turnovers and shot 60.9% from the floor and 92.3% from the line.
She is currently ranked sixth in the nation and first in the PBC in steals per game, and is second in the conference in assists per game.
She helped lead the 17th-ranked Patriots to a 3-0 week. At 19-1, Francis Marion is one of only four one-loss teams in Division II, and the Patriots own a 1.5 game lead in the Peach Belt standings.
FMU returns to action Wednesday night with a road game at UNC Pembroke.
Ransom is a product of Northwest Halifax High School, and was an honorable mention All-American at Louisburg College before transferring to FMU.
