FLORENCE, S.C. – Six Francis Marion University players are listed in the final 2009 NCAA Division II softball statistical report, while the Patriot squad is ranked highly in several team categories.
In the individual reports, junior left-handed pitcher Michaela Wolf (Littleton, Colo.) ranked 36th in pitching wins (20), 45th in earned run average (1.58), and 121st in strikeouts per nine innings (5.9). Freshman righty Lauren Bubeck (Tequesta, Fla.) ranked 116th in ERA at 2.19.
At the plate, senior outfielder Lakyn Bendle (Amsterdam, Ohio) ranked fourth nationally in sacrifice hits per game (0.47) and senior shortstop Shannan Tyson (Seminole, Fla.) ended the year as the ninth toughest batter to strike out. Tyson fanned only six times in 203 plate appearances. Bendle laid down 24 sacrifice bunts in 51 games en route to setting a new Peach Belt Conference career mark in that category with 62.
Freshman second baseman Ashley Jaramillo (Canyon Country, Calif.) ranked 76th in doubles per game (0.29), while junior leftfielder Jessica Birchmeier (Port Richey, Fla.) was listed 156th in walks per game (0.41).
In the team rankings, the Patriot women ranked 33rd in Division II in earned run average (1.97), 63rd in winning percentage (.627), 81st in batting average (.293), and 98th in scoring (4.67 runs per game).
Francis Marion ended the season with a 32-19 record, and narrowly missed earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
