FMU partners with LWVSC to hold public forum on energy efficiency

FLORENCE –Francis Marion University and the League of Women Voters of South Carolina will hold the public forum, “From Carbon to Efficiency,” next week on the FMU campus. 

The forum is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 22, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in Lowrimore Auditorium of the Cauthen Educational Media Center.  

Suzanne Watson, policy director for the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), will give a 20-minute presentation on energy efficiency at the federal and state levels. After her presentation, the following panelists will discuss energy efficiency:

·        S.C. Sen. Paul Campbell, District 44, Berkeley County

·        Mike Couick, president and CEO, S.C. Electric Cooperatives

·        Ashlie Lancaster, deputy director, S.C. Energy Office

·        Stephen Wukela, mayor of the City of Florence 

There will be ample time for questions and discussion.  The day prior to the forum, the ACEEE will release a national overview of energy efficiency efforts in all 50 states. Moreover, on Nov. 11, the ACEEE will issue a South Carolina-specific report with a list of policy recommendations for improving energy efficiency in our state. Press conferences in Charleston and Columbia will be held to release the report.
