FLORENCE – Johnny R. Willis, senior counselor for Circle Park Behavioral Health Services and part-time psychology instructor at Francis Marion University, has been honored by the FMU Department of Psychology with an outstanding alumni award.
Willis received the Professional Psychology Award for 2009-10 at a reception held recently on the FMU campus. He earned a bachelor of arts in anthropology from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from FMU.
In his current full-time position, he wears many hats. He conducts counseling sessions for individuals, which include screenings, assessments and treatment planning. As a group counselor, he serves as a facilitator of transitional relapse prevention and continuing care of outpatient and adolescent groups for substance abuse and dependence. As a family counselor, he works with family systems and couples to facilitate healing from addiction, relationship issues and other problem behaviors. He also developed a program to offer previously unavailable counseling services to special populations.
