FLORENCE, S.C. – After a rare in-season week off, the Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will play host to Peach Belt Conference newcomer Flagler College on Saturday afternoon.
The women’s game will tip off at 1:30 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 3:30 p.m. in the Smith University Center. General admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students. FMU students are admitted free with ID.
Both games will be broadcast on WWFN The Fan, 100.1 FM and televised live on Channel 11 of Florence’s Time Warner Cable system as well as streamed on the internet at http://www.pennatlantic.com/main.php?module=event-results&searchIt=yes .
The 17th-ranked FMU women enter Saturday’s game on a four-game winning streak, with a 14-2 overall mark, and in second place in the Peach Belt’s East Division with a 6-1 mark. The Saints are 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the PBC. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Patriots are 10-0 at home this year and have won 37 of their last 41 home contests.
The Francis Marion men have won three straight games, are also 14-2 overall and 6-1 in the PBC, and are also in second place in the East Division standings. The Flagler men are 7-7 overall and 2-3 in their first season in the Peach Belt. The two men’s programs have met once previously with the Patriots capturing a 79-71 win on Nov. 21, 1981 in Florence.
Following Saturday’s twinbill, Francis Marion will hit the road for three consecutive PBC away doubleheaders.
Flagler has an enrollment of 2,537 and is located in St. Augustine, Fla.
