FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University softball coach Stacey Vallee has announced that sophomore outfielder Destinea Schneider of Jacksonville, Fla., has transferred to FMU and will play for the Patriots this spring.
Schneider, 5-6, is transferring from Tallahassee Community College where she played one season.
In 2009, she batted .268 in 48 games with 36 runs scored and four runs batted in. She had a .328 on-base percentage and was successful on 21 of 27 stolen base attempts as the Eagles posted a 32-21 record.
She is a graduate of Edwards White High School, where she played for coach Josh Swearingen. Prior to moving to Jacksonville, she was a three-time All-Region player at Greenway (Ariz.) High School.
Schneider will join 10 other newcomers for the 2010 season. Francis Marion finished the 2009 season with a 32-19 record, and narrowly missed earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Patriots open their 2010 season on Feb. 6-7 at the Early Bird Tournament in Aiken, S.C.
